About the Artist:

Caleb Nichols grew up at the end of Labor-In-Vain road. It is a winding road that passes through the woods, past the fields, and over a bridge. The bridge crosses over a creek. The creek leads to a river, and the river flows out to the ocean beyond.

As a boy, he enjoyed rowing out on a gusty day to bounce about in the waves. There are whitecaps everywhere. Aside from the sloshing and slapping of water against the boat, it is very quiet and peaceful. The rowboat rides up each wave, takes in the view, and slides down the other side surrounded by froth and foam. The sea is in constant motion, and its’ vastness and power fascinate and humble him. This passion for water is most often seen in his beautiful cremation urns.

This then, is the starting point for his art, a personal connection with the sea difficult to describe but universal to anyone familiar with the ocean. It is his hope that his art work may transport the viewer, if only for an instant, to an offshore memory of their own.

Caleb Nichols is considered a unique artist unlike any other glass urn artist in the world. His passion for his art work has derived from his passion of being near the water. His passion for both of these things have come together to give these glass cremation urns individualized beauty. All of his cremation urns are elegant and are often thought to hold different meaning for each person looking at them. Caleb Nichols creative artistic abilities allow each of us to identify personally with each piece of art. Creating a deeper meaning that is more personalized.

From 1977 to 1979 Caleb Nichols attended Franklin College in Lugano, Switzerland; where he received his Associates in Art. Starting in 1979 and going through 1981, Caleb Nichols pursued his education at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. Under the direction of Gene Koss, glass sculptor, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree.

In 1982 through 1984 he worked as a Business Graphics designer in Cambridge, MA, where he was a graphic designer as well as a photographer. Then in 1985 he started his own business, Brimstone Glassworks in Stoughton, MA. Currently he is still the owner as well as sculptor of his own shop.
